Custom Enclosure: question about curing and smell of sealants
I just finished construction on a new enclosure for my BP just last week. It is a wooden enclosure, sealed with a polycrylic and edges sealed with silicone. I also have vinyl tiles on the sides and bottom secured with silicone.
My question is this: The silicone has cured, and you can no longer smell it. However, the vinyl still smells... well for lack of a better way to describe it-like fresh vinyl. Is anyone aware if it is harmful? My first thought is to wait it out, until it stops being noticeable. I'm just curious though, especially since my boy is growing quickly and about to outgrow his current tub, if it would be harmful? OR if anyone is aware of approximately how long it will take to dissipate?

I would just stick a fan in the cage for a few days, get some forced air circulation. If that reduces the smell great, if not this may be a more long term thing. I can't say wether or not he fumes are detrimental to your snake or not but unless someone comes along and says otherwise I would try to get rid of as much of the smell as possible.

Heat and air flow often helps a lot with solvents. I don't know what effect various vinyl compounds will have if any but I personally don't like to use anything that I can smell.

Yeah, that's the boat I'm in. I've had the flexwatt running in there for about a week now. Like I said I don't smell they solvents from the silicone, but it just smells like vinyl. It doesn't smell harsh, it's just there...
I'm hoping after a few more days it'll be good to go.

When you first get a new plastic bin for a rack it smells like plastic and i dont think anyone worries about that? Would vinyl be much different really?
