Got a big suprise
I had been getting sick for the past few weeks and just thought I had a virus or allergies. But as it turns out, I am 6 weeks pregnant. This will be mine and Shawn's first baby. We are both very excited but nervous at the same time. The EDD for the baby is November 8, 2005. Now, will having the snakes be ok, or will it pose a risk to the baby? What about feeding them frozen rats? Thanks in advance.

Wow! Congratulations! I wish you and your husband all the best. Smulkin and I are raising 3 kids (now 12, 13, and 15), and it's the most challenging and rewarding thing you will ever do in your life.
As long as you don't let you snakes roam the house freely, and as long as you wash your hands well after handling them, the baby should be fine. But don't feed it frozen rats.

Not literally frozen.. I let them thaw out and warm them up before I give them to the snakes. I just didn't know if they would have anything on them that would cause problems.

I think she meant don't feed the baby the frozen rats. Babies generally prefer live ones though. Pretty picky bunch LoL Be sure to get the enclosure set up and running before it comes though. Those babies can be quite a handful.
Congratulations! Hope all goes well. I think the frozen rodents are safer than the frozen chicken in your freezer, so no worries. Just be hygienic and wash your hands often. No cleaning cat litter boxes for you! Tell hubby to do it. Don't want to contract toxoplasmosis, ick.
Good luck with it all!

Congrats! I'd avoid feeding the baby frozen rats as well, though there are documented cases of live rats being more dangerous to the babies than the other way around. As long as you wash your hands well after handling any animals, but especially reptiles, rodents, and cats, and avoid cleaning litter boxes, you should be fine.

I dunno ours have done fairly well on f/t rats, Marla - of course the insist on the zombie rat dance.
But in all seriousness congratulations! That is the most monumental paradigm shift you'll ever get to experience - truly a humbling realignment of your world.

Reptile Dysfunction
They know what causes that now!
So is it 1.0 or 0.1?

It is a 0.0.1 as of right now. We won't be able to find out until August.. Sheesh, that's a long time to wait. I'm ready to know what it is and to have it, so I can get this being sick stuff over with.
I thought rats were supposed to provide the proper nutrition. Now I know I should stay away from feeding hairless rats, but the others are good.. Think I could throw a mouse in once in awhile to give a little varity?

Congratulations on the coming baby! That is so amazing!! I am really happy for you & your man!
A thought springs to mind as I read all of these responses. Where else would we be able to go & get away with talkin about feeding babies rats & not get shunned by society!? I love this place! LOL!
Life is like a game of poker. You can play each hand to the best of your ability but you are still going to run into a bad beat from time to time. What matters is how you handle it. Do you go on tilt or can you maintain your composure & rebuild your stack?
