Help! Noticed a breathing noise from my Purple albino tiger Retic

    Hey all,
I was just holding my purple albino tiger retic when I noticed a funny noise. He is 4' noticed he has become skinnier then when I got him(feed him weekly on small rats). I keep him in a tub, I realize now that I don't think it get's warm enough for his hot spot. The cool side read's 76 and the hot spot ranges from 78-90 depending where I point the cheap temp gun I have. There is alway's alittle a bit of condensation on the hot side of the tub. The water bowl is on the cool side. I've been adding new holes on the cool side of the tub. But, am afraid to add to many.
The problem that I just noticed now is? He's making this noise you make when you breath thru your nose with your mouth closed. Kinda like when you take a deep breath and when you exhale. It's not a whistle sound and his nose is clear, there is no mucus no runny nose. He is eating well and is active when I hold him or let him roam on my bed.
He's never made this loud breathing noise before. I don't know if I should be totally concern? I am going to start feeding him more. When he is in the tub his spine show's and he look's flacid. But, when I hold him at least now, he is thinner but his body smooth's out.
I have two herp vet's in my area if it comes to that. TY for any advice Gerrad

I wonder if this has anything to do with the noise? But, I never knew what sausage butt was till someone talked about there sheet's getting ruined. But, I did notice today that the tail area of my retic was leaning to the side when I was about to pick him up. When I actually held him I noticed that near his cloaca? He has some build up, and it's a long link of something. It look's like he is about to burst and shoot out a lincoln log. And, I'm guessing this is the sausage look that other's are talking about? lol As, far as I know he hasn't deficated since I've had him. Maybe he's constipated and so he's grunting to poop?
Also, on wednesday when I was feeding him and everyone else? I'm pretty sure he had the cloudy eyes and dull looking body. Today thou, his eyes looked clear and his body looked normal. Maybe since, his eyes are clear he will shed soon? Maybe he has some skin loosing up by his nostrils? Or, I could have been seeing thing's on wednesday.

78-90 hotspot side is WAY too big of a gradient to have. You NEED the hot spot at a set temperature. Is the UTH regulated any?

Have you checked inside his mouth for mucus and bubbles or mearly looking at his mouth from the outside?

You said he's gotten smaller since you've had him. How long have you had him, how much did he weight when you got him, and how much does he weigh now? Photos would help to see if he's looking too thin or not.

Clearing up (eyes not blue anymore) usually means that they're about to shed.

Wait for the shed and then see...its extremely possible that he just has some stuff up in there...if he still has the issue after his shed check the inside of his mouth for bubbles or mucus buildup.

Also like daybreaker said...get his temps right...that needs to me at a minimum around 85 but preferably around 90-95 (his hotside that is)...

Just took him out again to listen for his breathing. He kept fussing when I tried to gently touch him. I used my cheap snake hook to reposition him. He jumped and moved his body each time I touched. I finally, hooked him and put him in a much larger tub. When I tried to touch him with my hand's to hold him. He jumped each time which he never does, especially when he is out of his tub. I tried a few more times with no success. I observed his body and noticed all these spikes sticking out (random spots). I left him alone and played with him tub. All of sudden he started to move around and his body became full. Basically, he has started to shed!
I quickly put him back into his tub. Added a cave hide with edges and misted him and the wall's. He started to rub on the floor and wall's. I did hear the breathing noise for a few second's when he was in the larger tub. I'll let you guy's know if I still hear anything when he is done shedding.
I don't have his uth connected to a rheostat. I have one for the other tub's (the normal's and one annie is using it.). I'm going to rearrange spot's so that I can use the rheostat and control the heat better.
Oh and I'm going to pick up some digital therometers with the probes.

Had the purple albino tiger retic out today. I alway's do a full inspection when my snakes finish or just finished a shed. I make sure that all of the old skin is gone especially in certain places on the snake.
I didn't hear the weird noise that I made this post about. I did hear alittle bit of something but then again I heard the same thing when I was holding my male granite yellow annie. And, that noise was coming from my own nose !
This is my first Tic so I'm being super cautious with him. What I also noticed with him today? Is that he has some crazy yellow coloring on his belly area. It goes from the neck to almost the tail. From mid point to the beggining of his tail there is more white, but then the yellow pick's up to the tail tip. So, beautiful.
