    cage question!

I bought a custom built snake cage back in September. When I bought the cage it had a strong odor of what seems to be a polyurethane sealant of some sort. Will this be harmful to my future snake I plan on putting in there? It still smells quite a bit.

I don't know much about sealants, but honestly, I wouldnt trust to put my snake in something with a strong odor and shut it in. Is there any way you can wash it out with the hose and some soap? Maybe that will help?

Depending on what kind of sealant and how it was applied it may take a very long time to offgas. If you smell any odor I would not confine an animal in it. You may have a cage that is not usable for quite some time. Heat, ventilation and sunlight may help with the offgassing process.

Heat and lots of air flow usually help with off gassing. often a solvent cement is used in enclosures and it will off gas try to add some heat (trouble lamp inside works well) to the empty enclosure and a fan pointed at it to get as much air moving as possiable. If it is a solvent cement once it is off gassed it is the same plastic as the rest of the enclosure. You could always check with the maker to be sure.
