I think widows are gorgeous spiders! They have that perfect "spider body" - long thin legs, big fat pointy abdomen and they're shiny jet black! I found a dead widow when I was living in Tennessee - the red hourglass sent chills down my spine but I was still intrigued. Is she a pet or just a house guest?

Re: The itsy bitsy spider went to danny's house
My house is about fifty years old, it's full of widows, and from what I've been told, the venom(at least the venom of one's indigenous to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia) isn't all that much worse than a bee sting. Maybe it'll make you nauseated. That's what I've been told, and I grew up thinking they could put you into a state of paralysis and even kill you.
I was petrified they were all over the framing in my basement, but I never saw any in the upper two levels of my house. Than I woke up with one nestled into my chest hair. I nearly :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:, but they're not aggressive and I patiently "removed" him.

She is a pet but not one that I go out and play fetch with and give her belly a rub I respect her and I know my limits with her just like keeping venomous snakes the widows are just smaller. Alex ill try to get a pic with something in it for a size reference for you. There really gorgeous creatures. And bsavage we live in an older house to and I find them all the time outside in our buildings but I have never once found one inside or under the house other then the ones we keep lol

I dont think that keeping a venemous spider would be any different than keeping a venemous snake. I dont have experience with them at all but it seems like caring for a spider would be easier than a snake. I dont like spiders though so if I ever were to get one I would probably want a venemous one so I would have an excuse not to hold it lol :p
