Another rescue

So this one turns out to be a rescue. She's 2250 grams and a complete angel! She wasn't kept in very good conditions, but she's got plenty of size to her, and she ate every week. Surprises me that she ate so well, but that's ok.

She's got a few scars. Forgot to take a pic of the belly scar... I dug out some shed boogers in her nose, so she has clear nostrils, now. Most of the stuck shed is off of her, too. I just fed her today, so I don't want to mess with her to get newer pics. These pics are from 2 days ago, when I got her.







She's in a happier cage now, humid and warm. No mites to be found, but definitely in QT. They told me she's only 3 years old, but she's HUGE for 3 yrs. old...I'm guessing she's older...

She definitely wasn't taken care of properly before you got her. Congratulations, thank you on her behalf, and good job! I know the forum will be waiting for pics once she settles from her meal.

Does she hold her mouth open for an extended period of time? In the pics it looks like it's slightly agape.

She probably needed to do that to breathe if her nose was full of stuck shed.

wow, i wonder how many stuck eye caps she has. thats a horrible condition. i cant believe she still fed with all that on her. either way she is in better hands. post some updated pics after all teh shed is gone. id put her in a heavily damp pillow case for a couple hours and let her work them loose.

wow that's awesome that you took her in! I hope everything goes well for her! I really enjoy these stories, its sad that someone did that to a living thing, but its great that they have a chance at a healthy and happy life now. In case no one else says it, I appreciate people like yourself.

Hey! How did you clean out her nose? I have a carpet python who was popping and wheezing, and i thought it was an RI, but when i took it to the vet she said it was stuck shed...that she "witnessed" the shed go in the nostril....but then just told me to put my dog's eye drops on the tip of the snakes nose to "cure" it.

Yeah, not going back to her. But anyway....I do think it wasn't an RI, and it may be shed. She hasn't any snot or goop, and doesn't open her mouth etc.

How on earth would i get that out for her?

I have a 2100 gram 3 year old female. So the age might be pretty close.

I had my 10 yr. old hold the flashlight for me. I held her right behind the head and used a needle to carefully pry/grab it up out of the nostril. It was very carefully done, as I didn't want to hurt her. She really is a very calm snake. She didn't fight/push/squirm at all. Maybe she knew I was helping her.

Before doing this, I had washed her in the bathtub with tepid water (86-88 deg.) to start to soften any stuck shed.

She's still got the eyecaps. I'm likely to leave those until her next shed so she doesn't damage her eyes.
