    Must Have Breeding Books?

What are the must have breeding and general husbandry books for ball pythons? I have seen that there seem to be quite a few available, but would like to know what ones are the best instead of wasting funds on sub-par books.

While I don't have it myself yet, I've read good things about the VPI book.

    Re: Must Have Breeding Books?

The Complete Ball Python by Kevin McCurley
Pythons of the World, Vol II -- Ball Pythons: History, Natural History, Care, and Breeding by Dave & Tracy Barker

Both expensive, although Kevin's does not cost as much as the Barker's. Both VERY worth every penny, in my opinion. I have both...love both. Frequently refer to them for a variety of things. Both have excellent info and slightly different takes on how to do things. Both are also filled with beautiful eye candy. Both give excellent info on husbandry and breeding.

If I could only get or keep one of the two, I'd choose the Barker's, but only because it has tons more stuff in it. Kevin's is no less worthy in its own right.

Kevin's book is good, and The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas by Richard A. Ross is another. I agree tho, while its nice to have the books to read thru, everybit of information in them can be found here

2x -- if you can find a copy of that book, it's old, but it's an excellent reference.

I don't own a copy of Kevin's book (been waiting for the 2nd edition to come out, since he has stated that the current one is now so outdated) or the Barkers', though I'd like to get both. Do either one of those discuss the use of ultrasound in breeding management? ... That's my big goal for next year at the very least.

Kevin doesn't mention it. The Barkers do. They have about four paragraphs given to the topic and wrap it up with the statement that their ultrasound machine "provides interesting data, but is not critical for a successful breeding program."
