Hello from MD. I'm Lyn and i recently aquired a baby. He was abused and brought back to a pet store with a broken spine. We've had Chaos for about 3 weeks now and it's taking some time for him to warm up to us. For the first week he always wanted to be held and now when we reach in to pick him up he hides his head in his coils and actually shivers. I just noticed his eyes were white so i suppose that could be the reason he cowers. Please help me folks he's my first snake and i have no idea what to do. I have children and he seems to have taken to our hearing impaired son almost immediately! They watch tv together! Thank you i will be posting a pic soon.

is this a ball python?
his eyes are white because heel be shedding soon.. until he sheds, its not a good idea to handle him.. also, it is important to have the right husbandry to ensure a proper shed ,, and a healthy snake... check out the BP care sheets.
BTW,, what type of set up is he in?

Yes Sir Chaos is a ball python. I have him in a front opening viv with bedding shavings and rock, heat rock (as it gets very cold in our old house) a little house and a "pool". I have a heat lamp and uv lamps too. I also have a red night lamp for heat. ( i have bearded dragons so this is extras from them). I will be posting pics soon as i can of his home and of him.

take the heat rock out ASAP!!! this will burn reptiles. (i dont know why they sell these ).. youll need to get a UTH (under tank heater) of some sort, with a thermostat to regulate the temp of the UTH.
what is the ambient temp of the enclosure, and what is the hot spot temp?

The heat rock is ok for lizards, not so much for snakes. They don't require the higher temps that lizards do. Also, Ball Pythons are nocturnal, and don't really require UV lights.
