    Fresh water

So, do anyone else's animals rush for the fresh water like mine do? A while ago there was a post i read about keeping the water fresh, because some snakes won't drake stale, or old water which may have algea growing in it. Since that post, i've been doing fresh water daily...or at least every other day because sometime i do work too much and i don't get to it until the next evening. I have three snakes especially that as soon as that water is changed, they slither over as fast as they can and get a drink. It's ADORABLE. Totally makes me feel guilty for when i miss a day, and for those snakes i actually do try to do every single day. (Most of the others are still on their UTH's and haven't moved, so i know they didn't drink.)

Anyway, I dump the water, wipe out the bowl, and put fresh (bottled...did you know snakes can't have salt? So we don't give them softened water) water in. Last night i spent a long time doing some husbandry, and took my time handling most everyone and giving water, and then i got to see the rush to the water bowls *lol* perfectly reasonable, but it's just so silly and cute!

I mean it's not like they don't have perfect stats and are like, dying of thirst...they just love the fresh stuff. It's never really a long drink, they just like it. Does anyone else notice a rush to the water bowl?
14 snakes, 12 bugs, 1 skink, 1 frog, 2 dogs, and tons of fresh and saltwater fish. I've also begun snake rescue. What a ride!

My large female will do that every time! Even if we just changed the water she acts like she hasn't had a drink in weeks!

Mine will do this as well. If you had the option between a glass of water a day old and a glass of water just freshly poured, I think we all know which one we'd choose.

I think all animals are the same way. One of my cats, Liam likes to lick water from the tap and shower water on the side of the tub (with no soap in it, don't worry) all the time and prefers it over the water offered in their bowl.

I've been using tap water for the past 5 years with my snakes and have never had a problem. Bottled is unncessary but some people preferred to use it. Of course, watch which bottled water you use. I work with someone who used to work in a water testing facility where they test the contents of bottled water. She says most bottled waters are the same as tap, just in a plastic bottle. She said some even contain trace amounts of feces.

I always change my snakes water whenever I take him out to feed him. After he's finished eating I put him back in his tank and he goes right over to the water bowl to get a drink. Maybe its just the warmth of the fresh water that attracts him as opposed to room temperature water?

I give my snakes room temperature tap water. They get excited even over that.

    Re: Fresh water

I change all my snake's water bowls once a week. I very rarely see them drink.

Pretty much everything has feces in it. Ever see that episode of Mythbusters where they tested toothbrushes?

Didn't see the episode, but yea. Pretty much everything has germs in it. I'm not a germaphobe, so it doesn't phase me.
