You can keep them in a tub up to a certain point. They are predominately terrestrial like a ball python or woma, but whereas a BP or woma could live their lives in a CB70 size tub, a BHP will outgrow this and will need a cage that's at least 4 feet...........and height in the cage isn't so much of a concern as floor space is.

Head over to (google) either Southern Cross reptiles or Pilbara Pythons. There is some good info on those sites. Or look up either Derek Roddy or Tom Keogan for some advice as well. Those guys know their stuff and have some amazing BHPs!

    Re: black headed python?

    Thanks Jon for the mention.......

BHPs are like any other snake and grow according to feeding schedule. Being that feeding BHP "over sized" rats can put them in the ground quickly....I feed them differently than other pythons.

With that in mind....I've been able to keep my animals on the smaller side by feeding appropriate size meals.

Meaning.....no BHPs (even one that's 7 feet) should NEVER get a large rat.
My 7 foot animals only get med rats....along with fish and chicken in equal parts. (although, fish and chicken are NOT necessary.)...just feed smaller meals more often. This represents how they eat in the wild as they are active hunters....not ambush predators like Carpet pythons or Boas.
That being the case....they always seem hungry. This is how keepers begin to over feed them.

I have a few adults that have produced for me that are under the 5 foot mark. No need for them to be "a large snake".

If you need any assistance with getting one, etc....please reach out. I have one of the most diverse collections of BHP in the US....if not the world.

    Cheers,
    D
