Advice with ambiant temps.

I switched my snakes over to tubs about 8 months ago and have been doing great, i think i had a great set up. Hot spots were fine controlled by thermostats and i kept them near a radiator in my room that i set to a temp that provided i nice ambiant temp for the snakes and also bearable for ourselves as we live in a very cold climite.

Now heres the problem, we are due to have a baby any time soon and the snakes have to move to a different room for hygine reasons.
I knew this would be a problem as we have limted space and i cant get them near another heater.

I brought them an extra heat pad and thermostat each so they could have a 80f ish cold spot to compensate for the lack of heater.

The problem i have now found is that i have a great hot spot and cool spot but they are not effecting the ambient temp which is at about 70-72 f as they are not near a heater/ radiator.

I really th ought the extra pad would bump up the ambiant temps

What are your thoughts on this, bearing in mind that they have an almost perfect hot and cool side? He ambient tepms are way off because of the move. I cant hink of much more to do, i have inslulated the are as much as possible.
I am obviously conserned about their future health.

Has anyone else has good hot and cold temps but poor ambint winter temps an still kept tre snakes healthy?

Did you use a CHE with tubs or a rack?

A che would not be a great idea with tubs of a rack. I don't think it would work well, not having tried this I cannot say for sure. I have a rack in cool room temps but with the insulation and secondary heating I hold a 81ºF ambient with 80/90 cool hot surface temps. Too cool ambient temps really hamper thermoregulation. Are the snakes in a rack? You might be able to run heating along the side front to back to try to bump the ambient temps over using belly heat just a thought.

They are in stackable tubs, not sure of the american quartz size. 60 cm x 35 x20 approx, so sticking a heat tape on the side might not work.

Anyone had any luck using heat cable around the sides to bump ambeint temps.


My temps were very similar to yours when i had them in the other room by the heater. My ambient was around 82 f.

Last check i made with a temp gun was in there new environment 89 hot spots 80 cool spot with an ambeint of 68 in one tub and 72 in the other. (yes i know these are really low)

Ok, I am trying to think out of the box here and what you are doing is not something I have tried. My thought is actually to build a box over around the stack of tubs. Bottom top and sides but the front. basically a rack body with out the shelves. I'd look at using a stiff foam insulation to do so. This is not likely to be enough alone but placing some heat source alone a long side should help raise the ambient temps (heat cable or CHEs two or three mounted inside but not too close to the tubs. The idea is to make a second micro climate. You have a one inside the tubs but then a second inside the room. It will allow you to heat the space the tubs are in and not be forced to try to heat the whole room.
