Coco Husk Chips.. What size?
Hi,
im thinking about switching to Coco Husk.
I just talked to a guy that will produce it for me and i can
choose the size of the chips...
What do you think would be a good size for the chips??
Small ones will be more eaten when stuck to the rodents.. big ones wont be eaten but IF than they could harm the snake...
i just got a testing package with like a maximum grain of 1x1cm which seems to be perfect for hatchlings ans small balls...

I have been using the Eco Earth stuff you can buy in pet stores and it is about as fine as it can get, more like dirt than anything else. I love it for a lot of reasons, but the reason I am thinking about switching to something else is that is sticks to rodents like they are covered in honey, even when they are completely dry. If you can get it shredded to your preference, maybe try up a size, not powder pulp, but not quite chips. Just try out different sizes and see what works.
I have such mixed feelings about switching, I love the look and smell (or lack there of) of the coco husk and it is great for humidity. I have just seen my girl eat so much of it and it's making me nervous, though it's not like they never eat dirt in the wild. I don't know what I'm going to do, I might mix it with something less fine and see if that helps. I just don't like the smell of aspen, it makes a whole room smell like reptile.... decisions, grrrrr.

Re: Coco Husk Chips.. What size?
I dont know what is the Eco Stuff. Here in Germany we have pulverised COCO but i dont think that will be good cause they will inhale lot of this stuff.
The other point is that i dont have to fill one tub .. its like a couple more and
if they shredd it in my way that will be a couple hundred liters minimum...
Markus Jayne uses Coco Husk and he also seems to have several sizes. But he didnt answer my email ^^
