    Share your reptile show experience!

I have been to 1 so far and going to another in 10 days, im already addicted!

My first show was back in October, upon entering the show room i almost crapped my pants (im serious), i was so excited. I had never seen so many morphs of snakes, there was so much to look at and so little time! I was so overwelmed that i forgot to take pics, collect business cards, ask questions, and even look around good enough. This was also the first time i had seen a pied ball, my jaw dropped. Then i feel in love with the mystic potion bp.

There was one problem tho, the people i was with including my fiance, had already bought a new slithery friend! I didnt know what to buy but i knew i had to buy something!

So i walked out of the reptile show with Dracula, my new ornate nile monitor

I went to OKC in October and it was O.K. It was small but quite a few bp's to choose from. I went again yesterday and was very disappointed. There was a total of 6 bp's there and only 3 of them were actually for sale. The rest was all retics and Burms, with a few baby corns here and there. I want to go to a large show sometime soon but I guess I'll have to go to Texas to see one.

My last experience was amazing. I bought a weird looking "mojave" male ball which later turned out to be a pastel het red axanthic 100% het orange ghost. Not a bad pickup for 100 bux. Also at my first show I picked up a normal female ball that didnt look like any normal i've seen. She is possibly an epic normal i jus learned. I say possibly cause theres really no way to tell until breeding so time will tell. anyways shows can be awesome and exiting but there are very hectic and busy. so jump on the snakes you want fast.

We are going to Tinley in the spring so maybe I'll get to see some of you there! I can't wait! That will be my first really big show. I've already arranged to pick up a GTP but I'll be in the market for something else too - just don't know what yet!

I go to the Taylor MI show fairly often as I pick up f/t rats there. But in May, I went with the intention of picking up my first larger snake. I didn't know just what I wanted - I was considering a Dumeril, a Boa, or maybe a rainbow boa - I figured I just go and see what was there and talk to some breeders. We circled the show 4 times! I talked to several people but no one seemed to be really knowledgable and/or want to take the time to talk to us. I held a nice young Dumeril which I almost bought, but the guy selling her was selling her for a friend and didn't know anything about her and couldn't even be 100% sure she was a she! So I passed on her.

But the next table I went to, I saw 3 lovely baby boas: 2 male ghosts with silver and lavender coloration and a perfectly pink beauty with the prettiest splashy tail markings. The guy behind the booth turned out to be wonderful! He was so patient and answered every question I had. He got out the pink beauty and as soon as I touched her, I knew she had to be mine. The breeder even went over to where the f/t rats were and helped me pick out the right size for my new baby. He has been wonderful ever since too and has provided lots of "after sale" support - just what I was wanting.

So, the moral is, if you see something you really want, yes buy it because it probably won't be there if you go back. BUT if you're not sure, it might be better to hold off because you never know what might be at the next table!

That was the best expo experience I've ever had and I was walking on air outta there! I made a great purchase with Peaches too - she is a hypo dh ivory ghost so if I choose to breed her later on, she has some great genetics! I can't wait for Tinley! ...Wait, did I say that already??? Oh well - I can't wait for Tinley!!!

I live in St. Louis, so Tinley is around 5 hours from me. But I am here to tell you what, it was worth every second!!

Try your best to make it for both days, you can't possibly see it all in one day it's just too big!

I posted pictures from our trip, here are the links if you want to see them:

Since I'm a ball python nut, most of the snakes I photographed were balls, but there were snakes of every kind there. And, if you can believe it, my pictures were less than half of the balls at the show!

I love going to big reptile shows. You see so much variety. Every time I go I see something new. It might be something I have only seen in pictures or something I never heard of. I have to admit I have been to a few show saying I was only going to look and came home with a new addition.
