    Unboxing video

I finally got my pastel at 12:30 so this is my unboxing video. Now I don't mean to spoil it but he tried to bite me twice. Is this normal for a ball python who just spent the last eighteen hours in a box with little mobility? Yeison told me that he doesn't take the time to hold all of his snakes and that is why he's aggressive. I am more than willing to take a few bites to be able to hold my new baby. I think once i'm holding him he'll be fine, but how do I pick him up without getting a bite? Should I leave him alone for a few days before I pick him up again? I honestly don't think I have the willpower for that, and I quit smoking on a whim. Anyways tell me what you think! Ignore the pink blankets, I filmed this in my niece's room because it had the most light. I'll take some pictures later when he's not so grumpy

You should leave him alone for a week in his cage/tub. The hardest part in aquiring a new snake.

I've only received one that thought it would be more fun to bite than ball up. My boa was a completely different story though. She was super upset when I got her.

You really need to give him time to settle and I personally wouldn't start handling him until he starts eating for you.

When you go to pick him up if he's ready to tag you use a paper towel tube to touch his head. That's what I have to do with a lot of mine because when I open tubs lately they're all looking for food. They just get the look in their eyes like they're contemplating if they could swallow me.

    Re: Unboxing video

That is going to be so hard, but i'll try. I'm thinking maybe he's just hungry, because Yeison feeds him twice a week and it's been four days since he ate. Should I wait a couple days or try to feed him tonight?

Snakes use their sense of smell to determine pray items, not just heat signatures. When you get mistaken for food it's because you smell like rats/mice. Also after being shipped his is striking at you as part of his defense not out of hunger.

Most people recommend waiting a week before offering food. I feed my snakes on a schedule and offer new additions food when my QT room is being feed. If they don't take it, I don't push it. They get offered, if they refuse then they get to wait until the next feeding. So in short, you could try tonight or tomorrow but if he doesn't take it leave him alone for a week and then try again.

    Re: Unboxing video

    Hi,

To be honest missing a meal isn't going to have any negative effect on him so I would probably still wait the week.

Snakes vary in how long they need to settle in to a new environment but it never hurts to be a little cautious with an unknown snake. You will have plenty of time to handle him etc once he is settled in and feeding well for you.

Congrats on your new addition! Who did you get him from? It wasnt a very focused video. Now comes the hardest part, leave him alone and let him settle in. Good Luck

    Re: Unboxing video

I'll record a feeding video if he eats tonight which should be better. I did take him out briefly to see if he was really that aggressive, and it turns out that he was just stressed and defensive from shipping. He is head shy and any sudden movements make him jerk back but other than that he has a good temperament, no nipping. I would like him to have more yellow but overall I am very satisfied. I got him from Yeison Giraldo, I would recommend him to anyone. Now I just have to name him. I'm debating between Thor who is the Norse god of thunder, lightening, and strength and Jupiter which is the Roman version of Zeus.

my little pastel struck at me 3 times when taking him out of the bag. It's just stress. How would you like it if you were put into a box and tossed around a FedEx truck/plane/warehouse for 18 hours? I'd be pretty mad too.. Just give the little guy some time and space. He will be fine =)
