So, back in the beginning of November I caught Schemer, my 6 month old pastel BP, with early symptoms of RI. I took him into the vet, and have been injecting amakacin(10 doses of 1 unit each) every 3 days. I'm all done with the shots now, thankfully. He seems to be doing a lot better... he's resumed thermo-regulation, is no longer clicking, and the vet said the inside of his mouth looks good - no more saliva and no mucous. So far, I'm in the clear. I just have to wait and see if the bacteria doesn't make a comeback(in which case I'll do a culture & re-prescribe medication).
He also finished shedding this weekend, and is eating well. The only thing I have to do is up his feeding schedule to bring his weight back up(he lost a bit during the treatment). The vet said I should feed as much as possible, whenever he'll eat(but in small amounts). So I'm going to feed large frozen mice every 3-4 days for the next month or so(bought a dozen) and hopefully that'll be the end of it and I can resume his regular 7-10 day schedule of small rats.
So, sound good? Anything I should watch out for the vet may not have mentioned?
