    70% Humidity

    Hey guys

So Im having some problems with husbandry in my new rack, only one hatchling lesser is in there for the time being. For the past few days, temps are perfect but humidity has been 70-75 in her tub. Ive been experimenting with the tub next to hers to get the right humidity but still am having trouble getting 50-60%. It's already at borderline 52% and I covered another hole and hopefully it goes up a tiny bit. I'll prolly have it to perfection by the end of the day.

Will she be healthy even though shes been in a tub with 70-75% humidity for a few days now? I was stupid and I experimented with all the temps before I brought her home but forgot to test humidity with different types of bedding. Just want to make sure shes okay in there since Ive only see her come out of her hide once since Thursday. (which usually means theyre content, right?)

It should be fine as long as she's not laying on wet bedding... If the bedding is wet, try swapping to paper towels temporarily until you get your current bedding to dry out just a bit.

That's perfect for a hatchling. I'm not sure who started the idea that 50% is ok, but it's too low, especially for young snakes. It shouldn't drop below 60%.
As was mentioned, be sure nothing is wet, and your snake should thrive.

So I shouldnt even experiment with the other tub/move her to a different tub since 70-75% is OK? During shed times, would I just keep it at the same humidity as normal? I know some people move their water dish to the hot end but I wouldnt really need to do that.

As for the wet bedding, no its completely dry aspen, which is why I found it so weird that it was at 75% humidity at one point, because aspen was giving me 30% humidity in my glass tank.

    Thanks for the help guys

    Re: 70% Humidity

The humidity is good at that range. All but one of my BPs are kept at 70-80 percent humidity and they are doing well and no supplementary humidity is needed during shedding.

Yea, just to add my 2cents, as long as there isn't any moisture on the sides of the tubs or the BP is laying in wetness it should be fine.

I completely agree, 50-60 percent humidity is low for all ball pythons.

    From climatetemp.info

    Nigeria...
Mean relative humidity for an average year is recorded as 84.7% and on a monthly basis it ranges from 80% in March to 88% in June, July, September & October.

    Ghana...
Mean relative humidity for an average year is recorded as 81.0% and on a monthly basis it ranges from 77% in February & March to 85% in June & July.

West Africa is a pretty dang humid place

Im so glad I saw this. My tubs are always in the 70s range for humidity. No matter how many holes I punch, it doesn't go down... I know people up their humidity to 70s while their bps are in shed, but all of my snakes live in the 70s at all times. I was getting worried for a while.

And my tubs only gets moisture on the sides when a snake urinates. It's my indicator to clean the substrate. So as long as there's no continuous moisture on the sides, its alright and safe?

Wonder why most people and care sheets say 50-60% then???

I live in Louisiana where it's pretty humid. Like you, no matter how many holes I put in their tubs, I cannot get the humidity even close to 50%. Needless to say I never have a low humidity issue, but sometimes it does get a little high. My humidity is averages between 60-65%. So far no issues with any of my animals since I've had them.
