Help with rodent size please

Hi,

I'll be going to a reptile show this weekend and want to pick up some frozen rodents for my 2 Ball Pythons. What are the appropriate sized rodents for my snakes?j

Female 320 grams
Male 150 grams

Right now I am feeding the female a large adult mouse. She takes them with ease every 5 days. I am feeding the male hoppers every 5 days, however, I feel he can go bigger.

Advice would be appreciated as I've only been keeping BP's for 2 months now.

Without seeing the snakes...

I would say the male should be on rat fuzzies/pups and the female should be on rat weanlings.

General rule is prey item no bigger around than the snake.

it's best to get ball pythons on rats or they will need multiple mice per feeding when they are bigger

Your best bet, is eye ball It. And the prey should be between 10-15 percent of the total body weight of your snake. It seems difficult at first but with practice it is easier to eyeball.

If you believe she can take something a little large then look at rat sizes. I'm personally not to good with the whole "names for sizes" as I myself am still learning them. But you'll get plenty of other post that should explain them a lot better then I can. But I will add something. Instead of 1 large meal like a 100 gram rat, (which is way to much for either of your bp's) you could give the said snake on the example two smaller meals at once, each between 40-50 grams. Sorry I'm not.much help. But you'll get plenty of good post with more then enough info.

I agree that fuzzies or pups would be good for the smaller of the two, and weaned rats would be fine for the larger one. Make sure you check the rats before buying them, some sizes vary depending on the vendor...

Definitely check out the prey before buying. Some people have a really strange definition of "small" and "large". They should be no thicker than the thickest part of your snake. I always go by girth and not weight. It may not be the most proper thing, but it works for me.
