Holding Racks

I was wondering what you guys use as tubs for your holding racks. I've been looking everywhere for the answer. I would like to have large bins so i can hold many rats being grown out in each tub. Alot like the size of the freedom breeder grow out tub size. Thanks in advance.

I use 71 qt tubs.....they have the same footprint as a 41qt, but is taller......seem to work fine.....have no problems holding 50-75 weaners for a couple of weeks.......

Where did you get your 71 quart tubs? and dont they chew through them?

what ever you use be sure the rodents can rach the water. If not have to add a step in for them

Thats exactly what my problem is. I just found those 71 quart tubs on walmart.com and i cant tell if its gonna be to high for them to get the sippers.

Would 41 quart tubs be a sufficient height? what is a good height? i know the concrete tubs arent very deep. Also when i used concrete tubs they ate through them in a week will they eat through storage tubs?

If it were me, I'd steer clear of the 41 quart tubs. They don't have much height to them and I'd be worried that they'd try to chew their way out through the lid, as it tends to be a lighter material/thinner than what the actual tub is. Plus the extra height would keep them from making a break when you take the lid off, lol! Those are great but i want to be able to stack them and pull them out easily. Maybe i could use the 105 qt idea but have sippers with gravity water and put on a rack and find a way to easily disconnect the sippers. And if i would use 41 qt tubs i wouldn't use the lid anyway i would put it on a rack with out the top and have the feed up top on hardware cloth. The tubs i use at the moment are 8 inches high and 41 qts are 6 inch thats not too much of a difference but idk if it is too much of a difference. You know what i mean? idk i just feel stumped by the whole idea.

How big was the gap between the top of the mixing tub and the mesh when they chewed out? The best way to prevent chew outs is to have snug fitting tubs. I'd bet if you modified your mixing tub rack just a little, you would have much better luck

We use an aluminum frame with .5 wire cloth that snaps on to a HD large mixing tub. We use a gravity fed water system. We place the valves in the food hopper, this way it brings the valves closer to the bottom of the tub. We just pinch the valve spring when we need to move the tub and the water valve pops out. We hold around 40 to 50 weaned rats in a tub this size.
