    Nubes

I just have one BP, but after a few months of care, and this site, I have figured out a many ways of keeping my snake, getting the husbandry correct in the best possible way etc etc. However, I think I am new to this so I don't give a lot of information unless I am 100% positive and/or I have had experienced it myself. But what do you guys and gals think about people who have never owned a snake acting like an expert on here and giving advice? Even if its somewhat correct it still chaps me a little.

Honestly, as long as it's sound advice it doesn't really bother me. There have been cases where I've regurgitated things that I've read else where. I don't think you have to own a snake to be an expert just as I don't think that because someone owns 100+ snakes they are an expert.

Part of being on an online forum is that you will encounter lots of different people and get different opinions on things. You will get opinions from the "book smart" people who read everything they can get their hands on but have never owned a snake and you will get opinions from people who have knowledge that is based in experience.

I don't see a whole lot of new people commenting on anything other than basic questions that anyone with limited knowledge could answer. If someone knows the answer I don't see a problem with them responding... Whether they have 100 posts or 1,000,000 posts means nothing to me.

What I do have a problem with is when people call others out for being "noobs," or giving them a hard time for asking questions or being a part of the community. (That doesn't really happen on this site which is why I like it so much). We were all new to reptiles at some point and insulting people because they are trying to learn is not helping anything. ( I know that's not what your doing, I'm just speaking generally).

    Cheers.

I'm not calling anyone out or insulting them at all, like I said I still consider myself a beginner as well. If it wasn't for this site I would be lost! I read and re-read all the topics and caresheets before I finally bought my BP. I'm REALLY thankful that people are so nice and answer questions without calling others idiots, morrons, etc. I know that 99.99% of the time that wrong information will be corrected on this site. Even though I know answers I'm still scared to say much unless I have personnal experience with it. Maybe its just me, but for me its hard to take advice from someone like myself with only one snake, or no snake at all lol.

Something to consider, those of us with lots of snakes may do things in ways that aren't really practical for the average person with one snake, such as housing. I keep my snakes in racks, but someone with one or two snakes may keep theirs in a tank.

If you are going to judge someones advice based on how many snakes they keep, I think a better way is to do it based on how long they have been keeping snakes. I have 23 ball pythons, but I've only been keeping snakes for a little over a year. There are plenty of people with just 1 or 2 snakes that have had them for much longer.

    That just my .

Thats true, I should have phrased that better. I meant new people with just a snake or two. I personally dont want to give bad advice, even if I'm pretty sure that I know what the correct answer is. And please note I would never tell anyone they are stupid or anything. But if I were to give you advice on how to keep your snake, or how to treat RI "which I have no experience in thank goodness" Would you be a little weary to take my advice if I didn't have much experience and have never seen it? Thats why I love this website because there are so many people who have had snakes for a while, and other who have 23 snakes like yourself, and have experienced a lot of things that a new owener has yet to face. Maybe I'm

I know where you are coming from. I was pretty quiet my first few months as a member. When I ask a question on the forum I try to form my own opinions based on responses I get. Sometimes I do majority rules and other times I take bits and pieces of responses. It doesn't matter to me how much experience someone has when they respond because I don't just choose one response to follow. That being said, if some says something that is completely off topic I'm not going to use that to answer my question.

I like hearing from new people too because sometimes they bring up things I haven't considered before. I think a lot people get stuck in one way of doing something because it works and don't really consider that there may be another way to do it that works just as well.

I think far too many people who haven't been there and done that try to help, maybe with good intentions, but with wrong information, I know how you feel

I know. And I can understand where you are coming from. I don't give it much thought. Your going to get people's opinion whether its appreciated or not unfortunately. I just do my best to correct anything that is wrong or bad information, and hopefully it gives people a chance to change their personal knowledge and maintain some humility. I have given wrong information in some of my posts and I appreciate being called out on it because the last thing I want to do is give bad advice to members of this forum . I hope people share that idea.

    Cheers.
