    1100g male and diet??

    Hey Guys,

So I'm working on an Pastel Axanthic Project and my pastel het. ax male and female are almost ready to breed!!!! I was weighing them today and both of them are sitting around 1100grams. Now I was reading in a another forum tonight that males between 500-1000grams make the best breeders and the heavy fellas make lazy breeder animals. How can I keep my Males weight down without starving the poor guy. I'm caught between wanting him to be perfect for breeding, and my instinct which is to feed the little man til he's full.

More directly my question is this: How do I put my male BP on a healthy diet?

    Cheers, and thanks in advance.

Feed him one small rat every 5 to 7 days and stop worrying about it. Unless he looks like Michael Moore with scales, he'll be fine...

I have a feeling we've read the same poll question...lol.. My male is sittin at 1400gr plus and 4 1/2ft long... To me he looks perfect, he pounds down a med rat a week and still feels and looks like he could eat more...lol.. So back to the question at hand, I honestly dont know..lol... But I sure hope they are wrong cuz he's been doing all he can to get at my female...lol

Personally...I'd be more concerned about your females weight in relation to breeding and producing viable eggs. There are all kinds of tips and tricks you can do to get a male interested...but if the female is a porker, she may not go...and there's really nothing you can do to fix it...other than put her on a diet...

lol awesome! Mine is already getting a small rat a week but he's going up in weight slowly. He's growing by about 100grams every few months which is slow but steady. My female normy het. ax has grown huge on the other hand but thats because I feed her like a boa. LOL I got her at 900grams in August and she's sitting at almost 1600grams today. Gotta love the big normal ladies.

If this is her third winter I'd give her a go...if not, she'll definitely be ready by next year...

This is her third winter but I just got her in August and she had fasted for 4 months prior to me getting her and another two months after I got her. I have a great feeding response from her now though so I'm expecting to have her ready for next season.
