    dead rat smell?

    Hey Guys,

So I have a whole slew of questions I thought of when I was attending to the animals today but I am going to post them separately as they are all very different. This one is a wierd one for me.

So I have a rat bin that I use when I buy live rats and one or more of my BP's don't take them. I actually only have one BP at the moment that is on Norway Rats and the rest are on ASF. Any who, the rat bin is in the room with the ASF eating BPs.

Today I noticed that the one rat I had in the bin was dead. It was a little smelly and couldn't be dead for more than 24 hours or so.. usually I attend to their food and water every 2-3 days.. After I disposed on the rat I went to change the water dishes in my enclosures and all of my BP's are in hunt mode. None of them eat Norways though..

Is there something about the smell of dead rodents that attracts ball pythons? I don't ever get a response from them when I put a rat in with them so I don't know...

    Thanks guys.

I think its the smell of rats period...your BPs instinct kicks in! I don't think the dead smell does anything, I recently just had a mom with 11 babies die off and had a dead smell and my BPs/Boa didn't do anything different....hope this helped

    Thanks for the response!

I always keep the rats in the room though and they have never acted like this.

    cheers/
