    BP HATES moss

Does anyone else's BP hate moss? Ive tried terrarium moss and now I have Sphagnum moss that I also use with my Leopard Gecko (who loves it). Ive tried putting it in different places in the tank and she makes a point to stay FAR away from it. When I put it by her hide on the cool side she goes to the warm side and vice versa. I was having humidity issues so I made a humid hide and she wanted nothing to do with it. My humidity issue is all under control now so I don't need it anymore but I still find it odd that she dislikes it so much. If I set her on it she moves off of it and will look out at me like WTF, why would you do that!?

The moss is not really necessary anymore but I think its strange. Anyone else have that same issue?

I wonder if its how I prepare it? all I do is soak it in warm water for a bit then wring it out and put it in. Its not soaking wet and its not dry. (I tried putting dry stuff in there just to see if she just didn't like it wet and she still hates it lol

Hmm I've never used moss with any of mine. But they all have different personalities. Id just keep it out and use this as a learning experience.

I've noticed a strong aversion to water fresh out of the tap, likely because of the smell of chlorine. I always let tap water sit out with an open top for at least twelve hours before using it for any snake related purpose. Maybe it was chlorine odor?

And here I was thinking Pumpkin was the only weird one. She will go on top of the moss box but not in it. When the substrate was switched from aspen shavings to coconut fiber she will not 'touch' the floor but climbs from hide to hide over the climbing branches and water bowl but seems to have no problem laying on it once she is in the hide. Mmmmmm tap water? I will replace the moss and use the bottled water instead to see if that makes a difference... but no moss is not popular with Pumpkin either but having it in the tank has improved humidity since it's so dang dry in NV.

Hmm I'll try the bottled water thing too and see if that changes her opinion! Thanks

I've had a similar problem with my BP hating moss. Whenever I notice my snake is about to shed, I usually put some damp moss on his hides. I have noticed that after placing the moss, he hates going in his hides for a few hours to a day or two, no idea why. Might be because he's not used to the dampness of the moss, or like other people stated the chloride smell. Although I do know that whenever I change his water, he always goes out if his hide to investigate the new water and even take a drink from his fresh water IDK! It could be a possibility that he is scared or unfamiliar with the new moss and that unfamiliarity is causing him to be wary of it.

Have you noticed anything with the switch to bottled water? Never tried it but it does seem possible, but then again all BPs are different no?

When my first BP was about to have her shed, I put damp moss in her home and she wanted nothing to do it.
As you said wherever I put it you would always find her as far from it as possible.

I bought a huge, thick cellulose sponge, soak it and put it in a plastic container with water on the bottom, too and that really jacks up the humdity for shedding.

It's worked great except for my male Pastel.

When his belly went pink, he started soaking in his water bowl a lot and had a crappy shed because of it, in spite of me keeping his ambient hum. 70+% for the whole process.

The next time he goes pink, I'm removing his big bowl and giving him something with enough water to drink but not soak in.

[I figured he knew what he was doing but I guess not].....

Well last night she made a liar out of me! I came home and there she was chillin on top of the moss in her hide. Lol She didn't stay there very long and it was starting to really dry out so maybe she just doesnt like it wet or completely dry. What a picky girl!
