Talking Fed Kaa for the First time. Mission = Sucess!

((Haven't been on for a few day, have had wayyyyy too many calls at work D; *Shakes fist* ))

Being a new snake owner, I was very nervous about attempting to feed Kaa tonight. I wasn’t afraid of him tagging me by mistake but by the horror stories of exploding f/t mice lol. Everything went well though! I have to seriously thank Vypyrz for that though, as I studied his feeding video over and over before attempting to give Kaa his food.

Kaa was very enthusiastic about his mouse. The moment I started warming it – he came peeking out of his hide and was watching me like a hawk. All it took was one small wiggle and he nabbed it!

As far as I can tell he is settling in well and hasn’t shown any signs of stress. I also think he is secretly a dog in snakes clothing. He likes having his head rubbed and actually pushed back up against my finger like my dog does. The past couple of nights he’s also decided that curling up in my hair is fun.

I think I’m doing halfway decent for a first time owner. Every morning I check the temperatures, change the water, and monitor humidity.

Now, just to leave him be fore a day or two to digest... my fingers are itching to hold him though!

    Must... Resist...Temptation!

Congrats on the good first feed! and yes the 48hr no handling period is the definitely the worst part of BP ownership

I know it's so hard! To keep myself from being tempted - I grabbed my text books and headed into the other room to study. Lol.

Also, I don't have tongs to feed with - so I hope it is alright that I did so with a set of chopsticks. I realized I didn't have tongs after thawing the mouse. Haha

Haha, yea do whatever you can to minimize the temptation and at a small size its not a big deal, I use tweezers, or if you want you can also use pliers (preferably needle nose) but almost anything will work :]

buy a pair of hemostats. they'll make life easier, and certainly less full of accidental drops and bites. as far as handling following a meal goes, others may disagree, but there is no hard and fast rule in my opinion. I'd refrain from interaction immediately following feeding, but I've had no issues handling as soon as the morning after. a fair amount depends on the size of the meal, the individual snake, etc., but reguritation due to handling is often blown out of proportion.

either way, congrats on a successful first feeding. it's certainly a satisfying feeling.

I have this problem too, its tempting to play with them, but after all, its for their health so its a rule I will never break. In fact I like waiting a little more than 48 hours, especially after big meals.

If you ever get more than one snake (a collection), then if you dont feed them all on the same day, you will always have at least one snake to play with Thats what I intend to do at least. Handling them is definitely my favorite part of owning ball pythons, hands down

Congratulations on a successful feeding. You can also pick up some cheap food or bar-b-que tongs from the Dollar store. I used those for quite a while...

I actually think I may have a spare pair of hemostats sitting around the house someplace. I'll have to check later on. Never even occurred to me to use Hstats.

Also, Kaa seems to be doing well and I have successfully refrained from messing with him and will not be home till 1am tonight. So that gives him all of today as well to digest - and I will refrain from pestering him tonight as well.

I've only had Kaa for a short time, and already I want to get another.

I would love to get a Lesser Pastel - but sadly, I am broke.
