    Odd Flex Watt Wiring.

    I bought a new 60 tub baby rack this weekend ( ten levels) and the 3" flex watt came separately. After cleaning and disinfection I started to look at the flex watt that was supposed to be installed.

    I currently have an ARS rack and love it. It has a strip of flex watt under each shelf and that flex watt has an electrical cord (pair) coming out to a separate plug. That is what I thought would come with this rack as it is very similar in design. However, the way it is wired has me wondering.

    There are ten shelves and there are two groups of five strips of flex watt. From the electrical plug, a pair of wires comes into the first strip of flex watt, coming out of the connection is another pair of wires that goes to the next strip of flex watt. In other words, you see plug, cord, flex watt, cord, flex watt, until you have five strips connected to one plug.

    I've never seen it wired this way. I assume it will work, but wonder if the power will be distributed evenly when plugged into a proportional thermostat? Anyone know? Any electricians here willing to comment?

    It's called Series Wiring (or is it Parallel...?). I always wire my flex this way. It allows for one plug to control the entire rack.

    As long as the Flex strips are the same size, one thermostat will be fine, as each section should basically provide the same electrical resistance and therefor the same heat.

    Keeping in mind that there are always variances in temp on any strip of flexwatt.
