Anyone have ideas on how to keep a dog off the bed while you are gone?
I'm starting to get really annoyed with our dobie laying in bed while we are at work now that the house is chilly. She will not get on it when we are home, but when we are gone I'm sure she lays in it all day. It's not very nice to cuddle up in a hair covered blanket that smells like dog...
My problem is I don't mind the cats being in bed, I just don't want Athena in bed. I was thinking about putting a sheet of foil across the bed near our pillows to keep her from laying up there at least. It was either that or put the shop vac in bed. Which I'm not doing, lol.
Any other ideas?

Well first off is there a door you can close? I know thats probably a dumb question but if you dont crate your dog wich I dont but I have boxers that are short hair and they sleep in our guest bed or couch when we are gone. Dont you have a bedroom door you can just close? And what kind of dog is it? Then I can probably give you a solution once I know what your working with.
Sorry I just saw the dobie. So nvm on the type of dog but how hold is it?
Nvm again I just saw the pic...lol.

My dog tried that for a while too until we got a gate to go across the doorway

Aw the shedding will only last a few more weeks. Our German Shepherd mix has hair falling off of her like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree. I don't know how she isn't bald yet. I was pretty sure that the blankets that are on the floor for her were generating their own hair like some kind of DNA transfer or Jurassic Park creation thing.
How about getting a small portable heater and set it on low, point it towards her bed and put extra blankets on it.
Athena is so pretty! I love dobies.

We had the same problem with our Boxer and the couch; his toenails would put holes in the upholstry. We bought a roll of "carpet protector" that had spikes on the bottom. I cut it to fit the couch and turned the spikes up. He never got on the couch again. Or the loveseat, or the rocking chair...

I use a gate in the doorway. We have a husky and she explodes hair. We brush pomeranians off her almost daily (just way too much hair). She can't get over the gate and my cat can manage to haul his sizable bulk over it to sleep on the bed. Works for us. Good luck

I've thought about knitting husky hair sweaters for Christmas.
