    Breeding Questions

I've been pairing a few ball pythons and so far only had one pair locking up. I tried breeding last year, and even though there were locks, we (Coils and myself) didn't get any eggs. I assume they were reabsorbed, the temps weren't right, something.

Any tips on upping my chances of good clutches this time around? Having not had a successful clutch myself I'm not sure what to watch for or what to change.

A lock doesn't guarantee ovulation and eggs. What age and weight was the girl you tried to breed?

I dont remember how much she weighed last year, right now she's 2035g. I know it doesn't guarantee eggs, just wondering what I can do to make it more likely.

So far there have been 6 or 7 locks with a different female this year, 1540g.

I think the OP was just trying to get at the age of the females in question. Generally because they will usually not give eggs before their 3rd winter and until they are 1500 or more grams. Its not always the case but its a good rule of thumb. I had 3 females last year that were between 1200 and 1500 grams but they were only 2 years old and did not give me eggs. However this year at 1500 to 2700 and 3 years of age I'm pretty positive I'll be getting something out of them. Hope this answers your question. and yes you can increase your chances with proper husbandry and a good thermostat. Check out J. Kobylka's videos on youtube about ball python breeding, they are very informative.
