Question The more itry to figure it out the more confused I get :/

Sweet, short, and to the point...I eventually want to make an axanthic bee and everything along the line. Would buying a 100% het axanthic work the same as a visual ax?

I tried some research, but wanted a more straight up answer. Thank you!!

A 100% het ax. when crossed to another het. gives you these odds:

    25% Axanthic
    25% Normal *
    50% het. axanthics *

    * All normals would be considered 66%ph axanthics.

A 100% het ax. bred to a normal (anything that doesn't carry the axanthic gene):

    All offspring 50% ph axanthics.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nice thing is that no matter what you breed a visual to, everything is always 100% het for the gene. No poss hets!

When using a visual X het:

    50% Axanthic
    50% 100% normals het axanthic

    Visual x normal:

All offspring are 100% het axanthics

Visual X Visual = all axanthics!

If you can afford it, visual is the way to go as it will help speed up the project and produce more axanthics

Axanthic is a recessive morph, which means you need two copies of the gene to make a visual. If you breed a pastel het axanthic to a spider het axanthic you have a shot at getting an axanthic bee and every snake that is not a visual axanthic is considered a 66% het.

    Nope.

Axanthic is a recessive morph. You need two copies of the gene, one from each parent, to make a visual baby.

For example, a visual axanthic bred to a normal would produce 100% het for axanthic babies. BUT, breeding a 100% het axanthic to a normal produces only 50% het axanthic babies.

To produce an axanthic bee you are making a visual double co-dom and recessive snake. A visual spider to a visual pastel makes a bee, that part is easy. But you will also need axanthic from the spider AND the pastel to make your Axanthic bee. That means your best shot is an axanthic spider to an axanthic pastel. That gives you a 1 in 4 chance. Next in line is a visual of one of those, and a 100% het axanthic for the other. That gives you a 1 in 8 chance of hitting the right combo. BUT if you drop down to two 100% het axanthics, your chances dwindle to 1 in 16 to hit the right one.

I wanted to originally go the visual way, but would take me a little longer to get but thats ok. I just wasn't sure if it would be very much of a difference between the 100% het to visual but It all makes sense now. Thanks guys I can always count on you!:P Now to search for my Christmas present to myself!

You will be the best off spending the money on a pastel axanthic and a spider het, or a pastel axanthic and spider axanthic. Working with hets you can get there but your odds are not as good, at least one visual axanthic would be a huge plus, atleast that way all your offspring would be atleast %het for axanthic

    Hey there,

I am working on the same project. My recommendation - if your looking at producing Axanthic Bees is to get a spider het. axanthic and breed it to a pastel het. axanthic. Its the cheepest and most direct way to get what you want. Or if you want to start from the ground up you can get yourself a male axanthic, a female pastel and female spider. Breed the Axanthic male to the two females and all of the offspring will be 100% het for axanthic - breed the pastels to the spiders and see what you get. This way you can guarantee your working with 100% hets and you don't have to rely on the word of another breeder. With this option your looking at a 1/16 chance of hitting the axanthic bee.

Or you can breed a bumble bee to an axanthic and any bumblebees that come from that pairing WILL be 100% het. axanthic. Get two of them and your in business - this option has a 1/12 chance of hitting the axanthic bee but it also has a higher chance of hitting some other really cool stuff.

    Cheers.
