    Thinking about Adoption !!

So my wife and I were thinking about getting a playmate for Bailee our Choco Lab not right away but we found a dog around the same age and weight 45-50lbs. After seeing the pictures of the dog and her story I contacted the foster home from PAWS and we are meeting up. Any advice with adopting or bringing a new dog in a home. I also have two cats, PAWS says she is good with cats and lives with them in the foster home now.
    Here she is .http://www.adoptapet.com/pet6378038.html

Aw, she looks sweet! The only advice I can offer you is to be sure you don't favor any individual pets (especially when it comes to the dogs) while she's adjusting - you don't want to make one look like a hierarchy threat to the other. And also to remember that not every animal will get along - you may have to bring her home and see if she's a good fit for your current pets and face the possibility that she's not the dog for your household, no matter how much you may like her.

    Good luck with her!

    Re: Thinking about Adoption !!

Good to hear you want to adopt a dog! Advice: make sure you slowly introduce the new dog to your current dog AND the two cats. I foster cats and dogs and most adopters make the mistake of just allowing the new animal to roam around the house without a proper transition period. Just because the new dog is good with cats in the foster home doesn't mean your cats will like him. Always make sure your cats have an escape route and a safe place to get away in case they feel threatened. Don't leave the new dog and your current dog alone unsupervised until you are confident that they are compatible during supervised interactions. This can be a stressful time for all animals and humans alike. Good luck if you decide to adopt.

    Re: Thinking about Adoption !!

My pup now is crate trained and I plan on having the one crate trained as well .. As for the cats, I have a cat door on the door going down the basement. The dog is not allowed in the basement unless I invite her down for two reasons, 1) thats the cats getaway 2) the dog tried to eat cat poop litter lol. The only thing we are going to have trouble with is the energy level until Spring because by the time we get home from work it will be dark and the park by my houses closes at dark. Im getting a fence put in in the March im planning from the side of my house to the outback so we are ready. I just think having a second dog will be good for the both of them

    Re: Thinking about Adoption !!

We we went on the hunt the past 3 days looking and we found a dog at the animal control but when we tested her with Bailee the other dog was too dominant. Right now we found a 6 month old black lab to be meeting sometime this week.

Just an update we met with the dog Charlie( in the begin of thread) and fell in love we will be picking her up on Friday. She just got spayed and I just dropped my dog off this morning to get spayed so it gives them some time to heal alone

Cool. The link doesn't work anymore so you'll have to post some pictures for us soon.
