I know there are already threads on this ... I've read them, but I feel like the information is in bits and pieces and I'm trying to get a sense of the whole story.
My questions are:
1. Are citrus, fader, whiteout all the same thing?
2. Are they alleles on the pastel locus, or is it a gene that can be separated from pastel? (A "hidden gene," if you will)
3. Is the wacky stuff produced with citrus consistently produced, or is it random? In other words, if I bred citrus x lesser, would all of the citrus lessers be wild looking or would some be bland?
3b., if some are bland-looking, do those carry the citrus trait unexpressed, and can they produce wacky citrus stuff? Or are they a dead end?
4. Is there any way to distinguish a "citrus pastel" from a regular pastel?
and finally, 5. Is this one of those genes that lightens up as it ages?
I have seen a number of these up for sale, and pricing seems to be all over the place. I'm interested in breaking into them, as I love the crazy stuff you can make, but I'm hesitant without knowing the whole story -- especially since I'm having a hard time distinguishing a heterozygous citrus from a regular ol' pastel.
Thanks all!
