Ball Python Escape Artist?

My 3 month old bp appears to have been trying to escape for the past few days. He hides all day, but around 9 pm, he gets pretty active - typically climbing up the branches in his tank and hanging out near the top. Is this normal bp behavior, or a sign of some sort of discontent on his part? I was having some habitat issues when I first brought him home but I'm fairly sure they're all corrected now (and for the record, the top of the tank is lockable and secure enough that even I have to put in some not insignificant effort to open it, so I don't think he actually will be able to escape).

My 3 month old does the same thing in her habitat and feeding cage. I think it is just their way of checking out the scenery and BPs are nocturnal so that is no surprise that she becomes active at night. Do you have a night and day cycle? And if so do you use colored bulbs at night or just darkness? He probably isnt active in the day cause that is his sleep time.

Yes bp's will try to escape. Being active at night is normal and if he hides during the day then I would guess your husbandry is fine.

His day and night cycles are pretty much the same as mine. Total darkness at night - the combined warmth of the heating in the house and the UTH keeps him as warm as he needs to be. Still, I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and hear him rustling around.
