pvc cages??

I am considering a pvc cage from Jim Scharphorn. I was wondering if anyone had experience with these cages? I am looking for opinions on quality and how easy (or hard) these are to put together. I'm not too worried about Jim's reputation at the moment - I've read some mixed reviews, both positive and negative, on Fauna's BOI and I feel I'm pretty well informed in that department.

BUT, I'm having a hard time finding more detailed info on the cages themselves - specifically how they go together. I could order the cage preassembled, but it's like $160 more which is a huge difference. My hubby is pretty confident he can whip it together, but it's always helpful to hear how it went for others. Can anyone tell me about their experience and/or offer any tips?

I'm also wondering how well they hold heat and humidity and how easy they are to clean???

We are planning to order the 36x24x24 with the RHP, perches, and light....

I don't have any myself but know lots of people that have them. I a;ways hear good stuff about them. THe only downseide I ever really hear is that they do cost more then other tanks, but most people that I know use them say it is worth it.

I bought mine second hand so I can't speak to assembly, delivery or customer service but I do love the cage. It holds both heat and humidity well and I really like it. I keep the water bowl under the RHP and occasionally mist (more so when he's in shed), my Helix takes care of the temp which seems to hold really well once reached. I'd most definitely order another of these cages if I was to get a second GTP. I love how easy the perches are to wipe down but one thing I've noticed recently is that bits of paper towel can get caught in the seams of the cage when I'm wiping it down. Also when I was using Eco Earth it would get caught in the track of the sliding doors. The perches feel very sturdy to me and sometimes I have difficulty getting them out yet the other night my GTP managed to knock one down. The doors have handles which I really like as well. I have been pleased with the cage in general.

Jim has one of the quicker turn around times of any cage builder. His cages go together pretty much like any other knock down cage (think AP). They just screw together - takes about 30 minutes max. Nothing to worry about.

I've done business with Jim a couple of times and had no problems. I've always found him responsive and attentive.

As it happens, we worked it out with Jim to pick up the cage rather than having it shipped. We are in Michigan too and we'll be in the Grand Rapids area on the 8th and Jim said no problem to have it ready by then. So he's actually going to assemble it for us. I was going to just have my hubby do it and that would have been fine, but Jim said he'd do it for us for no extra charge since we'd pick it up. Win-win!

Getting the works - 36x24x24 with RHP, light, and perches! Can't wait! ....Of course, it's occupent won't be in it til spring....
