    First Beardie

    Hi all,
I've been keeping and breeding BP's for 6 years now but last night picked up my first dragon. He is a 3.5 year old hypo and he is just gorgeous. I have a couple of questions and I'm also looking for suggestions.

1st: My tank is quite high and I have a large log for climbing. Should the UV light be positioned so that it is 8"s from the log or the floor? I'm using a 36" Reptisun 5.0 which I will switch to a 10.0 in a few months.

2nd: He has not moved from under a fake rock shelf all day. I know they take some time adjusting but I thought he would have come out by now to at least explore/eat. Should I be concerned?

Thank-you in advance for your help

Position the lamp above the place where the Dragon prefers to bask. You may have to wait for him to let you know where this is. As for inches, I don't use that because all lamps are different. Different wattages are different temps. It's best to get a digital thermometer with probe, put the probe on the basking surface, and adjust the lamp until the basking temp stays about right. 95-110 so I try to keep my basking area at 100.

I keep my lamp on a timer so it turns on in the morning and off at night. This time of year adults will barely eat. Mine is barely eating a few super worms per week and maybe some greens every 2 days. He has really slowed down. It's totally normal.

Still take him out every so often for a warm soak to hydrate him and in case he needs to go to the bathroom and things need to be helped along due to his brumation and spotty eating.

Adult dragons become very economical pets in the winter lol!
