Finally she eats, but I did have to get her live.

Well Lou, my Bp, finally ate after 4 weeks of refusing F/T. We went to Petco bought one of their 'pet' mice and set it in a tub on top of her encloser for about half an hour, intetionally scenting the room. Then thunked the mouse on the head to disorent it, Lou isnt quite big enough for a full sized mouse just a little smaller around than the mouse so I did it as a precaution because I personally have never seen her eat live and the pet store doesnt sell live feeder mice so I couldnt get a live fuzzy. I put the mouse in and with in a minute she struck constricted and well Im sure you know the rest. her strike was dead on too, right on the neck. After words she went back to where the mouse was and started tasting the air like she was looking for another so tomorrow we may try again and she if shes up for it. I did find that her humidity is way off when I put a digital hydrometer in there its at about 40% so im moving her water dish today and misting the tank and misting her hide. Im just so happy she finally ate.

Congrats on the feed! Sometimes it's just better to stick with what they know. Just so you know though... After they kill the prey it's pretty common for them to take a look around. I would give her a couple days to digest before offering again. Personally id stick to a 5 day schedule. She was just checking the area out before she started eating.

she didnt check until she had the mouse down her throat though. I might me wrong, it does happen on occation . Anyways Im just happy she ate.

I wouldn't offer again until at least 5 days. She's been off feed for a month - let her digest this meal and continue to offer on a 5 day or weekly schedule.

Congrats on her eating - that is the most awesome feeling when they finally get off their fast!!!

its a relief mostly I was slightly worried and my fiance was really worried.

I've had a male go 10 months refusing weekly meals - let me tell ya I was at my witts end with that boy. Luckily he barely lost any weight and all of a sudden started to eat again.

yeah she hadnt lost any weight but shes young, under 6 months so really she should be eating alot right? anyways I think it had to do with the recent temp change here which affects the house drasticly because we dont have a/c and the heating at my place sucks so her temps are slight off but not anything horrible.

I've heard from Petsmart that feeding a pet mouse to a snake can be unhealthy for the snake because of the vitamins, supplements, medications, etc that they give to the pet mice. I've also heard that Petsmart is extremely uneducated when it comes to snakes. Don't mean to hijack the thread but this may be a concern that someone knowledgeable will want to address.

Actually my fiance and I were at pet smart and the guy there said if we wanted to try live to go get one at petco, because they are cheaper and they arent fancy, mostly albino really. Anyways I agree I kinda hope someone more knowledgable can help on this.

my room mate's het g-stripe refused like 4 meals from him. he tried live and f/t and prekilled but he just wouldnt eat. then the day that im feeding everyone, he's at work so i offered him a live mouse, probably halfway to full grown idk what that would be, and it took a little coaxing for him to realize it was there but i got him to eat. he did same thing as yours and went back to sniff the air around the kill spot but just went and hid in his hide after. i agree its a load of your chest when they finally eat, and my room mate was kinda upset that he would never eat for him but that i got him to.
