It looks like a cinny pewter to me. The pattern doesn't look like a black pastel.

If it was sold as a Cinny Pewter, then more likely than not, it's a Cinny Pewter. Either way, why is that need to know info? Do you plan on breeding?

It's a cinny pewter, the pattern is wrong for a black pewter. Most of the time when people refer to pewters they mean cinny pewters not black pewters, those are usually labeled as such.

Exactly. Any good breeder will clearly label their Pewters as a Black Pewter if that was the case. And I'm not trying to pick on you, but if breeding is something you are looking into doing, maybe you should learn more about morphs and what-not before you even consider it. Breeding isn't as easy as it seems. And if you are going to be dealing with morphs, things can get tricky. I don't know how you bought a Pewter without knowing what kind of Pewter it is.

Just a little something to think about before you make you're next purchase. I've seen a lot people lately buy ball pythons for "breeding" purpose, without knowing what exactly they are buying.

Everyone has to start some where and with some morphs there are subtle differences that can make them hard to tell apart. In this case that is a great example of a cinny pewter, but if it was a poor quality cinny then it might be hard to tell from a black pastel.

I am guilty of buying a couple of animals with completely understanding them. I got my first spider before I knew about the spider wobble. I got my enchi because I wanted to make enchi bumble bees not really knowing what to look for in a good enchi.

I know you weren't trying to pick on them, but I'm just trying to help you see it from the other side. Proper care needs to be learned before purchasing an animal, but you can always learn more about the color mutation afterwards. At the start of the year I would have been hard pressed to tell a normal from a yellow belly, but now I feel confident that I know what to look for in the sublet morphs and can give an opinion. You have to start somewhere and this site is a huge help with that.

Can someone explain the pattern difference to me? I've looked at pictures of both and I see both that look like both, I can't tell the difference.

What would you say this pewter is?

I would say yours is also a cinny pewter. The reason I believe it is a cinny pewter is because the pattern isn't quite as busy as a black pewter and the alien heads are very clean. If you look at a black pewter or a black pastel you will see some speckling around the alien heads.

The circled area is what I am referring to as an alien head.

Edit: As I've said before a poor quality cinny can look like a black pastel. The black pastels seem to have much busier/crazy patterns to me.
