    rodent Feeder URI's

    Hey Guys,

I have noticed a large amount of the rats I've been getting froom various sources havve had URIs. I'm curious as to whether anyone knows ifthis can have a negative effect on the snakes. I can't imagine it will but just the idea makes me wonder.

    Any thoughts?
    thanks,
    Chris

It won't have a negative effect on your snakes, but you should fix the problem. It's not right to ignore the problem, just because they are going to be fed off (not that that's what you're doing) You'll probably have to start over, with new stock. Healthy stock should basically never get sick.

I haven't had any health issues in my mice in over a year.

What kind of bedding are you using? Are you keeping your rats outside? Do they havep roper ventilation? Is there any blood on their noses?

    Hey,

I'm not breeding, I only pick up when I need them. I've just noticed a lot of the rats I was getting had URIs. I switched my source but my new source is sending me rats with URIs too, so I was just concerned. I don't keep them for longer than a day or two so treating them is pointless by the time they get to me.

oh, and no blood on their noses.

    Thanks

I've never heard of Myco? I looked it up when I read the post and I'm not sure about it.. :\

I didn't play close enough attention to them to really see. They do make a gurgle sound and do what I'm assuming is sneezing. I gave 2 of my rats away because my girlfriend named them and wouldn't let me feed them. They were taken in by a local rat rescue. The woman who runs it said they had URI's but who knows :\. The one I got today was from a different source and it was showing similar symptoms.. Can Myco effect the snake?

No it cant and rats all carry it, Just some express it more that can make them get sick and die fast. They will have red fluids from the eyes and nose. Cant be transferred from rat to rat.

I get Myco with old female breeders., My males yet to show it at all but I will get 1-2 females a year tat show it but still live and breed. Once I know the Myco is affecting their life and ability to breed i Gas them.
