Morbid question.

I know this is totally morbid, but after reading a few threads this morning, I got to thinking.

What has everyone done with snakes that have passed away? I really referring to snakes who were aged, or hatchlings too weak to survive, or those dead in the egg (not so much those who were sick and sent for a necropsy). Do you bury them? Do you turn them over to a vet to be - for lack of a better term - disposed of?

Knock on wood, I haven't had any deaths yet. I'd probably have a necropsy done if it is unknown why it passed, I'd see if they could put the body in a secure container and I'd probably bury it like I would my cat or dog (if I had cats or dogs LOL). I'm sure people who have animals in the hundreds don't do this though....

As weird as this miay sound, I know someone who freezes the prettier morphs that he h ha sbut unfortunately passed away. He has a Patel Ivory sitting in his freezer, why? I don't know, but at least I got to see a Pastel Ivory in person lol.

Why would you freeze them?

At this point, my guys are more like pets than anything else, so I'd probably end up with a little snake graveyard somewhere behind my garage, lol.

Hike through the forest, trowel-dug hole, pick some nice flowers on the hike, large rock over the hole so it doesn't become food

Interesting question. When I was a kid, I buried them in the back yard...I remember my dog digging up and eating 2 Amazon Tree Boas that had died of mouth rot one time. I can't remember the last time I had a snake die that wasn't a hatchling that just didn't make it past the egg. When that happens, I just throw them out with the old, used eggs. Really no need for a ceremony or anything.

I saved the skin from a hatchling that never figured out eating. He took a few meals with assisting, but eventually started regurging those too. So I don't find your question too morbid... as I have the skin as a keepsake of sorts.

I have only had one baby snake die so far and as morbid as it seems, I fed it to my kingsnake. I didn't enjoy doing it, but I figure it's the circle of life.
