In need of some guidance
Hey Everyone,
ive had my baby spider bp for about 20 days now and she seems to just start to be settling in although she always seems to hiss at me when i try to pick her up i have done 3 feedings of live hopper/fuzzies since ive had her with no problems so far so good i guess. i have her set up in a 10g tank for which i have an UTH on the bottom of the tank and one of her hides right above the UTH and an infrared bulb for maintaining heat on the "hot side" of the tank.
i just recently purchased a thermostat from bigappleherp.com (BAH-1000DC) for the UTH as from reading other post and some advise, they can reach high temps and this was a must.
since the UTH is on the bottom of the tank, i was hoping you guys can give me some guidance or advise as to where would it be best to place the probe of the tstat to get the most accurate temp and temp reading. should i place it on the inside of the tank right above the UTH and cover it with the substrate and of course the hide as its right above the UTH?
or should i tape it to the UTH on the outside of the tank? i would like to post pics but dont know how to do it on here
sorry for the long post guys but any advise/guidance/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i just went through all these steps and everyone does something dif. I was able to pull my uth off and put probe between the tank and uth (im going to aluminum tape it down just in case). But you'll want a thermometer inside in the middle of the hot spot so you can see where the thermostat needs to be set to make up for the diffrence in because your probe is outside and the thermometer is inside. Or use a heat gun. Im no expert but this is working well for me.

Re: In need of some guidance
I would stick it right to the uth.... I dont want the probe in the cage where it could be knocked loose

Re: In need of some guidance
hey guys thanks for your advise/opinions. for now i have taped the probe right to the UTH but on the outside of course. or should it be in between the UTH and the bottom of the tank? i took a reading after this with a temp gun and inside the tank above the uth it read in the mid 80's. usually suggestion is that hot spot should be around 90F. is this a bad reading due to where i have placed the probe?

The probe should be directly on the UTH as others have said. The ideal hot spot inside the tank on the glass above the hot spot should be between 88-92 degrees. You can adjust the thermostat up and down as needed to achieve the proper temps.

U can tape the thermostat probe under the UTH. I like it this way so the entire UTH is stuck flush to the tank and it will heat more evenly. Buy an acurite at Walmart for 12 bucks and stick the probe on the inside of the tank right in the center of the UTH
A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.
