Something that has confused me for a while...

I'm starting to take a liking to the more high end morphs (phantom, mocha, mystic, freak, special, etc.). While looking though I have noticed one thing that confuses me. We all know about hets, blah blah blah. What I don't understand is there are het red axanthic and het pumas.....yet I can't find that there is a puma or red axanthic. Correct me if I'm wrong please. But I don't understand how something can be a het when it doesn't produce the real thing?

    Thanks

    There is a puma http://www.worldofballpythons.com/morphs/puma/
and a het red axanthic http://www.coreywoods.com/het.shtml
    red axanthic http://www.coreywoods.com/red.shtml
From what I understand, the het red axanthics are co-doms where the red axanthic is its super form.

Some snakes are just named werid, like how some will call yellow bellies het Ivories. I believe there is a Red Axanthic morph. The puma is a little more complicated. I believe het pumas are one of those morphs that you breed to a yellow belly and get something cool out of.

They ARE hets, genetically. They are codom hets, or heterozygous for a codominant gene. They are not recessive hets, as we normally think of.

True. They can be called hets, In the codom sense. Its just odd to see it that way.

So is that het-pumas are a complementary gene to the YB gene, thus creating that gorgeous animal? Sort of like how lesser + mojave are complementary genes.. or on the same locus, at least.

If you breed a puma to a normal do you get all YB and het puma?
