multiple morph breeding
hi, i was wandering if it would be "prudent" to breed 2 or 3 diferent male morphs to a single female???
i have a female pastel, and 4 different males that i would consider breeding her to. the males are,,, spider, pinstripe, mojo,,, and cinnabee.. now my first thoughts would be to put the cinnabee with her and thats what im gonna do, but, i want to get the "full potential" from the pastel.
i know that you dont always see a lock, and what if i put the cinnabee with her the whole time, and nothing takes,,, thus, "wasting" the pastels breeding season.
im a novice at breeding snakes, and was wandering what the more experienced breeders do to get the full potential from their females (due to males that your not so sure of)???
hope this makes sence
thanks

I would suggest it only if you have no specific plans.
Remember that the more you add to the mix, the more likely it is to get positive results as well as negative...
My situtation:
I bred several double co-dom males to a normal female...
12 eggs.
ALL NORMAL.
It could have been the other way as well... but it wasn't.
Just FYI.

That sucks..........you got luck like me
Back on subject......................
I have 2 normal girls and 1 granite going this year, and 3 males.
The male I am hoping is a granite is getting paired with the granite female and no one else. My spider and pastel males are rotating out with the normals. BUT to not waste the season IF my male doesnt prove to be genetic granite, my spider is also getting rotated in with the granite girl

As long as they aren't recessive gene males go for it. Deborah made a good point, to add to it, if you really want babies from one male over the other, you should only breed him. I bred my pastel and my spider to all my girls last year and the pastel took them all. I really wanted a spider baby.

Im going to use specific pairs to increase the odds that I will be getting particular morphs. I havent done any breeding YET. But Id rather guarantee there is potential for the morph I want rather than settle for anything that will take. But thats just me.

if i had a big breeding stock, i would fully agree with you, but at this time, im a very small breeder,, so anything i can add to my collection would be a plus.. and all of my potential breeding options leaves me with fair odds of hitting atleast one "hot one"...
but, ill definatly take your thoughts into consideration... it this point,, im open to all opinions!
thnks
