    Toffee/Toffino?

A recent post on here has raised some questions for me about Toffee’s, and I was hoping someone could shed some light on the topic for me. I was aware that it was discovered (at least by the public) last year that the Toffee gene was in some way linked to the albino gene. What I’m not clear on is there any visual between baby Toffee’s, Toffino’s, and Albino’s. And is there any Toffino’s out there that have reached a size where if they were pure Toffee’s they would have reached their adult colours. And if so what do they look like? Albino’s, Toffee, somewhere in between?

As babies they all look like albinos

toffee and toffino color after tho. Someone posted a picture of a yearling toffino and someone else claimed you couldn't tell the difference between the toffee and toffino in person. As far as online pictures they looked the same to me also.

With the toffee and toffino being that close together that they are undecipherable leaves a door open making it hard to put that kind of money on an animal not knowing if it is a toffee or a cross, and there is a huge difference in price

What will be interesting to find out is if a "Toffino" produces Toffee's, Albino's or both. Also does a Toffee male to an Albino female produce both or just "Toffino's"? Albino male to Toffee female? "Toffino" to an Albino and a "Toffino"? So many un answeared questions.

No reason not to assume it will be like lesser/mojave bel. Guess we will find out in a couple year when they breed em but I don't see the T- and T+ appearing albinos being variations of the same morph.

Maybe its too late and my brain is too foggy but how can they be like Lessor/Mojave BEL's but not be variations of each other? So what are you trying to suggest? They are compatible in some way, that we now know. The question now is how?

    Re: Toffee/Toffino?

There are still many unknown genetic possibilities with the Toffee and Toffino. They may very well be the same thing or they are two different gentic results from a toffee x toffee and a toffee x albino pairings.

So far I have heard there is no visual difference between the two by those who have compared them, I have not compared them myself.

I think they may be like superstripes or cyrstals where the genes of two different morphs combine to make a new morph. This is only speculation and theory as we will not know until future breeding are done and genetics confirmed.

Next year we should learn alot more.

Sitting on the same locus but still different morphs. Theres no denying lesser and mojave are different morphs. Sounded like you were keeping open the possibility of the tyrosinase is variable. Or what do you mean how their compatible? As far as I know when we saw compatible we mean sitting on the same locus.

The questions have all been answered by the ones working with them. Everything else is speculation by those who arent working with them. Personally i dont see the point with trying to put all my eggs in one basket to produce such high priced animals that take longer to sell. I would rather work with morphs that are affordable for people to buy.
