Do you talk to your rats?
I do. I usually start off the conversation to my rats when I go into the garage to tend to their needs with "What up, ratties?" "Ratties" is pronounced "rattehs". I open up tubs and say "what up? Doin ok? Good. You wanna bite me? No? Thats good too".
Even know I gas their babies and feed them to my snakes..... I really like them. I always feel bad when uthanizing though :/

Haha, I talk to everybody. Especially rats that I spend a lot of time with, they pick up their own names pretty quickly. Rats that I bond with learn to come when I call them, its really cute.

I talk to mine. My 4 y.o. Named all the females luas, so when I'm talking to them I call them by name, tell them their babies are cute, and let then know which ones I might keep when I'm replenishing my breeders.

Re: Do you talk to your rats?
I try not to talk to the majority of my breeder rats, but I do have a couple older ones that have stuck with me, and my "project" rats. I only name very unique females, and my breeder males. However I will kind of talk to the moms and the project rats.
My 7 yr old and 5 yr old sons help me a good deal with the critters, and I'm trying to show them that even though the rats are mainly there as a food source for the snakes, all living beings need to be treated with some respect. It's normally the animal you don't respect that bites you or gets loose and chews your water lines.

Sometimes. Mostly its congratulating a momma on a big clutch, or threatening them if they look like they're about to attack.

Re: Do you talk to your rats?
We raise rats by the hundreds, so I do not talk to individual rats. However, I find they are much calmer when they here voices associated with their care. it helps to keep them calm. Many of them will walk to the front of the tub when we open it. It makes it easier than having all of them hide at the back of the tub. Also nursing moms are less likely to get excited when we reach for babies...

Re: Do you talk to your rats?
I've had mine for all of a whopping two days now but every time I go to check on their food/water/general well-being (twice a day), I try to talk to them. I don't know that it will do anything but I'm hoping they'll get used to me and my voice and gradually become more comfortable, not to mention when they breed and have babies. There's one female in particular that seems to be a little bolder than the others; not sure if it's my voice or just her natural curiosity but she'll come to check me out while the others run to the back of the tub. I have yet to give them names, if ever I do...raising them as feeder-breeders and not pets but we'll see how long that lasts, lol!
