G. rosea piling up substrate...

I am new to T's, but we have 0.0.2 adult G. rosea and 0.0.1 adult A. avic. The avic just hangs out on the glass and the one rosea just hangs out on the ground and do not really do much. Neither really build webs, either. Now our latest G. rosea which we have had about a month has recently started piling up its substrate (coconut husk) and has made a lot of webbing on the sides of its container. It doesn't appear to be making a blanket to molt on like the other G. rosea did. I don't know what it's deal is. Is this normal or is there a reason it is doing this?

As long as you're keeping them properly (G. rosea like it dry dry dry!) Then there's nothing to worry about. It may very well be molting behavior and she's just making her cage feel more secure before she molts. If not, she's just being a rose. They're known to have quirky habits - mine went through a landscaping phase too.

Wait and see if she gets a bald spot on her abdomen that starts out tan and darkens to black with time, or if she just molts. If she does, that's why she was remodelling. If not, then she was just doing it for the heck of it

No signs of a molt at this time, at least not an obvious physical one. Still eats like a champ too, unlike our other G. rosea who went on a hunger strike before molting, which I hear is normal. Its actually quite entertaining to watch it work. Its been busy. Sometimes it will build a little mound and then stand on top of it for a bit and play king of the mountain. Then it will make another mound and play over there.

It is normal, tarantulas do very strange things - lol
