Snake hates flashlight?
My snake rack is right by my apartment door so I keep a small flash light on top for when I take my dog out at night. Well instead of bothering to turn on the lights to check on my snakes I used the flash light. It took about 2 seconds before my large normal female snapped at it. She didn't get anywhere because she hit the tub wall but did she think it was food or do you think it was a defensive strike? She's a pig and will eat anything so I can see her thinking it was food. She's taken 2 medium rats on the same day for me before because my other large normal refused and she was still looking for more afterwards.

I had this happen to me too!! I started to check on my BP's through the plastic with my flash light, and the second time I did I had one of my males strike all the way from the back of his tub and face plant the front of the tub where the flashlight beam was. I leaped all the way out of the room and was Afraid to come back for a while LOL.

My Iggy scared the bejeebers outta me over a flashlight.
I'd only had her a few days and naturally was playing the Worrisome Mom, checking on her frequently and she was nowhere to be seen.
So, like an idiot, I pointed the flashlight at the end of her paper towel tube and she came out of it like a rattlesnake strapped to a rocket and hit the glass.
I didn't think she'd ever let me near her again but a couple minutes later, all was forgiven.
I have no idea what it is about flashlights but apparently pythons don't like 'em...especially if they were sleeping peacefully right before you freaked them out with one.

I had this happen with a hatchling during a blackout (in the summer, so everyone was fine)..the baby went right for the side of the tub! I think it gives off a heat signature and they think it's food.

I'm sure the direct beam of light stresses them out more than a "daylight" type of feel.

Probably thinks it's food honestly, from a snakes perspective, the heat given off from a light is much like that from a rodent
