    PAM and paper towel

    Hey Guys,

I have been treating mites in my collection. I have already applied the second treatment to the ASPEN substrate and have them on it now. Most of them have stopped showing signs of mites (no more soaking the water dish) - although I haven't taken them out to closely inspect them as the snakes in the other room are still mite free for the time being, and I don't want to risk additional exposure.

A lot of people here on BP.net have been suggesting that I should have them on paper towel during the treatment.

    My questions are as follows;

    1. Now that I have applied the second dose of treatment (2days ago) should I move them to paper towel that is treated after the two weeks and give them three doses - or should I move them now onto treated paper towel - or should I leave them on the aspen and hope for the best?

    2. If I were to move them to paper towel do I treat the paper towel with PAM or do I treat the bins and than place the paper towel in it. Ergo I can change the towel as needed (which is much more frequent than other substrates)? It says on the can not to treat an enclosure, just the substrate so I feel that paper towel would not be very effective.

    Thanks!
    Chris.

It does say not to treat the enclosure! That's what I was so confused about when I was told to go ahead and treat the enclosure without the paper towel...
However, I got advice on here to spray the tank and then use my paper towel as usual. I did, the mites are gone, and Jackson is just fine. I also use reptile carpet under the paper towel, so I treated that as well.
Please don't go just by my advice, though... def get a second opinion. Jackson is my first and only snake, so I'm pretty inexperienced.

It is fine to treat the enclosure as long as it has time to dry and air out. U should have put them on paper towels when u started treating, but oh well to late to worry now. Put them on paper towels that have been treated and dried and also the enclosure. Make sure the water bowls are not treated but washed very well. If u don't see anything on the paper towel or ur snake or in the water in about a week u should be ok. It's not a bad idea to treat the others cuz the mites can travel on u and make it to the others, even if u aren't handling them.

A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.

    Thanks for your responses!

So you guys think I should switch them to treated PT immediately?

    Cheers.

When I'm in the middle of a mite crisis (which luckily hasn't happened for a few years now) I only use paper towels as a substrate. Just easier to treat that way and gives them less places to hide. And you don't have to keep throwing out your bedding. Just my own opinion. Probably doesn't matter which way you do it, but it seems to me that simplifies the process.

By the way, what's with the all the mite infestations lately? Glad I'm done taking in any more new snakes for the rest of the year.

Luckily ive never dealt with them. But have Case of PAM on hand if ever needed.

I always treat new arrivals after i fully inspect them. Spray their tub without water inside and let about 2 mins pass to dry. Add snake and water back to tub and your set.
