never leaves the cold side...
Ok. As the title says my snake never settles anywhere but the cold side of its tank. It goes out at night, but always back to cold side... Temp on cold side is around 77 during the day and 73 at night measured just above substrate temp on warm side constant and measures around 92-94 just below substrate. The hides are not identical, so I recently switched them to see if it just preceded the slightly smaller hide, but it went to the same side with the larger hide... I'm not sure if its a big deal at all, its eating and everything regularly. It just seems to me like that temp is too cold for the snake to constantly stay especially at night... Maybe the hot side is to hot..?
Any input will help... Thanks.

My guess would be the hot side is too hot and whatever you are using to measure temps may not be as accurate as you think. I keep my hot side between 88-92, 94 is a little too hot to keep consistently. Do you use a thermostat for the UTH?

It's on a lamp dimmer, but its monitored with a probe and stays consistent... I've had it as low as 85-90 for a while and he has still never spent any time curled up over there..?

Re: never leaves the cold side...
My hot side is at 88-90 and I find my snakes mostly laying on the cooler side of their tubs unless I have just fed them, then I see them on the warm side. It is not entirely out of the oridnary for a snake to lay on the cool side often.

I'm in the same situation. I have some snakes that prefer the cool side (cool being 80) and only venture into their hot hides after eating or soiling their preferred location. Just always keep in mind that your ball python will choose security over comfort. This is a main reason why we offer two identical hides and like living environments offered in both a cool and hot spot within the enclosure allowing them to thermoregulate without choosing which spot the "like" best. If your husbandry is up to par and you have a healthy eating snake I would not worry about it too much. This being said 73 on your cool side is a tad bit cool.
