Does tub height matter when breeding?

I know almost everyone that breeds ball pythons puts their females in 41 qt tubs. Is this because they breed better in tubs with little height to them or because it is easier to keep multiple snakes in tubs that aren't tall? I'm asking because I use 90 qt tubs which are roughly 36"W x 18"D x 12''H. I do this so they have the extra vertical room and they seem to enjoy it. Would I have better success breeding this year if I used the 41 qts? any input on tub size compared to breeding success would be appreciated.

Two reasons people don't use tubs that are tall: waste of space and waste of heat.

Ball pythons do not need height to be happy since they live their lives on the ground, so it saves a lot of space having shorter tubs. As for the waste of heat, it takes a lot more to heat a tub because it has more space to heat and more space to lose heat-the sides of the tub.

There's no harm in using taller tubs if it makes you happy Just as long as the heat is in a good range.

does the less height make them feel more secure? My girlfriend fought me on putting them in racks in the first place and is now fighting me on taking them out of 90 qt tubs and putting them in 41 qt tubs so any other reasons to help me persuade her?

tell her your listening to the advice of people that have been doing this for a while and we would never recommend something that would harm your animal. most of my girls are in 28s and breed just fine. they also arnt monster girls either.

You definitely want them to feel secure and low ceiling enclosure do provide the extra security.

Ultimately it is YOUR choice you can always try and see how goes but as far as what most people do they generally use 41 quarts tubs even 32 quart tubs depending on the female's size.

i think the lower height does make them feel more secure, i had a little pewter in a very tall 15 qt, didn't eat for a month but when i put him back into a shallow 12 qt he started pounding rats!

I also agree lower height gives security. These animals naturally live in burrows in the ground and the shorter tub mimics that.
