Any Vegans out there?
As some may know, I have a daughter in law whom is vegan, after my mothers illness/death last year, my son has become a near vegan, he will eat chicken and fish.
I have tried alot of the vegan "meat" out there, and to be honest it's not bad at all, the tofurkey tastes like the turkey slices from my high school days lol.
I am going to me making up batches of seitan tonight & tomorrow, found some vegan chicken/ beef bouillon cubes. Will be making seitan bourguignon on sat for them.
If anyone has any good vegan recipes they'd like to share, I'd greatly appreciate it, Thanks

^This is an insanely huge source of recipes submitted by the public that has been a god send. Great thing about this little gem is the things that are submitted can be rated so you can see what to cook and what to not waste your time and money on. I was vegan for about a year and this site was really helpful before I fell off the bandwagon (I only eat chicken and fish; no beef or pork) but I'm hoping to jump back on soon.
Hope this helps though!

Once I made these AWESOME vegan tacos. I'll dig up the recipe for you. I've also made vegan shepards pie for thanksgiving before and my carnivorous mother in law had second helpings!
I used to be a hardcore vegetarian for 2 years, dabbled in veganism off and on, but with such a carnivorous family and my own weaknesses for medium steak and pigging out on cheesy things, it was too hard for me. My husband and I would like to go back to a vegetarian and eventually a vegan (high in raw foods) diet.
If you like to bake, check out the book The Joy of Vegan Baking (http://www.joyofveganbaking.com/) ....awesome recipes. Made some muffins and cookies out of there a few times.
Here's the Tofu Tacos recipe:

Be careful with what ingredients you use, there are A LOT of products out there that seem vegetarian and/or vegan, but they are not (for example, butter is made with dairy products and that fact might slip your mind). --> And even some margarines have animal product in them!
And also, vegans don't consume or generally use any animal products. This includes milk (or any dairy product), eggs, yadda yadda yadda the list could go on forever.
Good luck on your endeavor!

I really don't know of or heard any males being vegans, only females. Is there something I am missing or just a coincidence?

If someone is eating chicken and fish, he's not "near vegan". Sorry. That's more like vegetarian lite. It's not even vegetarian, truly.
There's a lot of websites full of recipes, and many also have listings of ingrediants so you can be sure you're getting vegan ingrediants. Certain geletin products contain animal protiens for instance. I'd suggest joining some of the forums, because I believe a lot of them share recipes in addition to ingrediant discussion.
Me? I like animal protien, eggs, dairy and all too much.

Personally I think it's just coincidence. Maybe it has to do with the kind of image it would send for a guy to be a "softie" for food animals?
Either way, I'm vegetarian and plan on becoming vegan when I move out, simply because it's difficult enough to be vegetarian when my parents are both meat lovers
I second what CatandDiallo said, there's a difference between vegan and vegetarian. Vegan means no meats obviously, and also no dairy or eggs, etc. Vegetarian is basically nothing that would directly kill or harm the animal involved (so no meats or meat broths, and no hides/pelts).
If you ask me, it's a lot easier to do vegetarian first, get used to it (it's been 5 years for me and I hardly even think about it anymore - I know which places have vegetarian-friendly foods, and I know all the ins and outs of vegetarian food substitution). That way you can see if you can do that while keeping a good nutrient balance, and then make the progression to vegan. It'll be a seemingly tiny step after you've been vegetarian successfully.

I meet vegans all the time. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I hang out with a bunch of people working for a certain environmental organization (I'll leave the name out for now). My vegan friend base is split pretty 50/50 in terms of gender.
And I wouldn't be sensing any underhanded, sexist comments would I?
