Temp/Humidity Check Up

Okay so this is the first snake I've ever had (got her on Saturday) and I just wanted to make sure that I was checking the temp right and all that.

I bought a temp gun (for about 25) and I check the temps in the tank 3-4 times a day (in the morning, afternoon, night, before bed, etc). Pretty much whenever I notice the overall temp in my house get colder or hotter.

Her tank temps are normally 78-82 on the "cool" side and 86-90 on the "warm" side. Are these temperatures good? Also, my humidity stays at about 60-65% throughout the day, it dipped down to 55% last night so I misted it and this morning it was back to it's correct percentage).

Just want to make sure I'm providing a comfortable home for my snake

Temps sound OK would like to see it a little warmer but that is my preferance as for checking temps this is the prefered method Acu-Rite digital Indoor Outdoor themometer with probe. Its what I now use and love it to no end makes it simple to check and Walmart has them for 12 bucks or so

Your temps sound perfect for a young snake. As they get older the warm side can be a tighter range say 88-90. Snakes as we know are cold blooded but that does not mean when they use muscles they don't get warmer. Big snakes that is not as pronounced but small snakes will while digesting will raise their temps by simple muscle action so a touch cooler is fine for them but as meals are farther between and bodies get larger and denser this effect is not as great. So warmer temps are needed. Typically 88-90 some will go warmer up to 94 personally with the potential errors in thermometers I don't usually say anything over 92º

Awesome Thanks for the link! I saw that brand mentioned in the "Care Sheet" for the Ball pythons but for some reason whenever I tried to look for it through Google all these other kinds of thermometers kept coming up so I gave up on it and bought the Temp Gun instead.

And also thank you for that information on adult snakes I had no idea that they needed warmer temps when older
