Smile Dummy tub or attached to heat cable??

So right now i have my thermostat probe attached to the heat cable but i have a open tub i dont use and probably wont use for awhile. My question is which is better for my tstat probe, a dummy tub which there is no snake or water bowl in the tub so there is 0 chance of any probs from that or straight to the heat cable? Thanks for your thoughts!

This is something that baffles me. And i understand alot of people do it but i just dont get it. If its tub temps your trying to achieve then why attach the probe directlly to the heat source and not inside the tub where the animal is living. I use 3 types of racks. Freedom breeders, vision, and custom built melamine. In every one of them i have a dummy tub. This way i know exactlly what the temps are for the animal. Now with flexwatt it can be a little tricky and ya may have to tinker a little to get a balance cause flexwatt will have dead spots from time to time. Cable tends to be a little more reliable if you have a rack set up for it.
