How long before I attempt to feed.

    Hey everyone.

I got my FIRST ball python from the CRBE show yesterday. I read in the ball python book that I have that I should wait to feed and let the ball python get used to the enclosure first. I was just wondering if this is still accurate. Also, How long before I attempt to handle it?

Heres a pic for those interested, its a female bumble bee

You can attempt to feed the snake the day after you have it or you can wait two days, it really is up to you in the end. I would not handle the animal until it has eaten at least twice, but again all this is entirely up to you. Nice looking snake by the way!

One week to feed, 48 hours after feed to handle is the general idea. Some do it sooner, some do it later but one week is great.

leaving alone for 1 week isthe general rule - minimal handling for 3 - wont hurt it at all to not feed for the first week

did you win the bumblebee from the raffle?! If so I mildly hate you and are jealous. LOL wait one week from when you bring her home and keep her on a 1 week schedule from that day.

    Cheers.

She's beautiful...congrats on your first bp!
Do you happen to know the feeding history at all? With mine I knew it had eaten live mouse hoppers 3 weeks in a row, so I waited a week after getting him (he was just over a month old) before offering another...but he refused. I 'had' been handling him though, and I figured the combination of that plus his new surroundings was making him feel a bit insecure, so I left him alone for another week then tried again...and he ate.

My policy now is to not handle him until minimum 2 days after he's eaten a meal. If he refuses food on a scheduled feeding, I then leave him be (no handling) for another week and try again. So basically I'm not allowed handling him unless he's sticking to his feeding schedule.

Probably more info. than you needed, but maybe it'll come in handy to follow a similar guideline so your beautiful bumblebee girl feels comfortable and eats for you.
